Love Meetings (1965)
Overview:
Microphone in hand, Pier Paolo Pasolini asks Italians to talk about sex: he asks children if they know where do babies come from, old and young women if they are equal to men, both genders if a woman’s virginity still matters, how do they view homosexuals, if sex and honor are related, if divorce should be legal, and if they support the recent abolition of brothels (the Merlin Law). Every now and then he also consults intellectuals Alberto Moravia and Cesare Musatti. The final thesis: despite the booming economy of the 60s, Italians’ attitudes toward sex are either strictly Medieval (the poor and the South) or muddled and self-censoring (the bourgeoisie and the North).
